Organic bee pollen

Just a short note to say that we've had a new delivery of Antonio's air dried bee pollen (organic) and you can order it from here. This is multifloral pollen and it has lots of brightly coloured bits of pollen in it.

We've just had a delivery of raw organic honey from Antonio. Mike was doing some photos of the honeys for the web site - but he didn't tell us about this photo!

Brighton Farm Market

For the first time a really top quality Farmer's Market - known as Brighton Farm Market - has arrived in Brighton.

If you're a customer of ours then you can buy our honey here every Saturday. Call us on 01273 382263 if you have any special requests for honey.

I'm writing this having just returned from the market.

It was really great to see top quality produce on display from a wide variety of suppliers - fresh organic vegetables, fresh organic bread, local cheeses, Italian food from Calabria and of course raw honey from us.

Here's a view of the market, going in from North Road.

Thousands of people are going to be visiting it soon, once word gets around. Brighton has been crying out for this kind of quality Farmer's Market for years.

You can see some of the new honeys we have in this video - including honeycomb, sublime Surrey honey (from Elderflower mainly) and Brighton Coombe Road allotment honey.

You can visit Brighton Farm Market website for more details about the market here.

New project to help bees develop resistence to the vorroa mite

Interesting piece about a project to help bees develop a resistance to the vorroa mite. (You can see a mite on the right hand side of this picture.) This is the mite that has been millions of bees.

In Africa wild bees have quickly developed resistance to the vorroa mite.

The project managers argue that by treating bees with vorroa allowed the weaker strains of bee have been perpetuated - and thus the vorroa mite continues. See here for more details:

Honey's Healing Power

A BBC article from 2004 seems to be getting a lot of hits all of a sudden. It's mainly about manuka honey but does have stuff on the general antiseptic qualities of honey. Here's the link.

Save the Bumble Bee

Two species of British Bumble Bee have become extinct in the last 70 years and two more species are heading for extinction. The number of indigenous bees has decreased by about half over most of lowland Britain.

Pyrenees honey is asking you to do something now to help save the Bumble Bee by voting for the Bumble Bee Trust application to the National Lottery Fund for a grant to save these bees. Just go here

Bumble Bees are vital for pollinating crops in the UK - and throughout all their range.

Organic Royal Jelly

Pyreneeshoney has just taken delivery of a consignment of organic royal jelly from Antonio Simon. They're going to be selling this for £20 for 20 grams. I couldn't find any other organic royal jelly on the internet although I believe that there may be some French companies that sell organic royal jelly. Antonio is a small scale beekeeper is part of an organic community based to the north of Madrid in Spain. He is committed to producing pure honey and other bee products of the highest quality. Like all this products this is completely unprocessed.

You can buy the organic royal jelly here.

Pyrenees Honey Back at Churchill Square Farmers Market

First day back at Churchill Square Farmer's Market today. A beautiful clear day and a lot of people eager to buy some more raw honey - especially those suffering with colds.

We were also selling Isle of Wight garlic at half price (we ordered too much before Christmas and then a lot of markets were cancelled because of the weather, so we weren't able to sell it).

As long as the weather is good we'll be there every week from now on. The market is every Wednesday.

This is Karen anxiously surveying the sky for any sign of snow......or rain.
